The Charisma LK362

The Charisma, LK362, is one of the largest vessels in Shetland’s fleet of pelagic boats.  More than 70m long, the 2,424-tonne ship was built at Flekkefjord Slipp & Maskinfabrikk, Norway and was launched in October 2003.

The Charisma’s Chief Engineer is Billy Hughson and he’s been using Mergi for about four years.  He feels that it does produce better fuel economy.  For him, though, the most important advantage lies in the benefits to the vessel’s 6,000kW power plant.

"It keeps the fuel system cleaner. The engine runs cleaner and the fuel injectors are lasting twice as long as they did before we started using Mergi"
Billy Hughson (Chief Engineer) - Charisma

Billy says that the cleaning effect is very noticeable.  When Mergi is first used, the fuel filters collect significant amounts of material, demonstrating that Mergi is flushing out impurities from the tank and pipework.  Once the system is clean, it stays clean.  It also seems to deal effectively with any micro-organisms in the fuel.  Over the years, he has noticed some deterioration in the overall quality of fuel and Mergi has helped compensate for that.

Billy Hughson intends to keep using Mergi and is happy to recommend it.
