Robinson Transport

A bus and coach company based in Weisdale, Shetland, Robinson Transport can trace its origins back to the 1930s, when Robinson and Morrison ran both the local shop and local transport services.  Five years ago, Graham Robinson took on the transport side of the business and Robinson Transport now operates eight buses ranging in size from 8 to 33 seats.  The vehicles are used for public services, school transport and private hire.

Graham has kept records of fuel consumption since he first began using Mergi about two years ago.  He says that the overall improvement in fuel economy is around 5%, although it does vary from vehicle to vehicle.  For example, one vehicle used to achieve 7.35 miles per litre while another identical one did 6.9 miles per litre.  When Robinson Transport began using Mergi, both vehicles returned between 7.6 and 7.9 miles per litre, with marginally better results in the spring and summer months.  He’s pleased with the improvement and points out that he’d only need to achieve a gain of half a per cent for Mergi to pay for itself.

However, fuel economy isn’t the only advantage.  Graham says that smoke emissions have been lower when the vehicles have been tested, so there’s a further environmental gain. He has no hesitation in recommending Mergi.
